Sonshine Corner Nursery School is an early childhood center for 3
and 4 year olds. The school serves families in and around the
Greater Houlton area. Our program is designed to give your child a
positive Christian learning environment. Academic, social,
emotional, and motor skills are addressed in a play based, teacher
directed curriculum.
The staff of SCNS include Leanne
Chamberlain, (teacher), Lyn Mountain, Melanie Stewart and
Denise Campbell
(assistant
teachers). The school is run on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays
from 8:00am to 11:00am. Parents are able to choose weather they would
like to send their child to the 2 day, or the 3 day program. The
cost is $64 per month for the two day, $96 a month for the 3 day.
Some of the activities we do include
circle time (daily), which focuses on learning the Pledge of
Allegiance to the American flag, alphabet and letter sounds, months of the year, days of
the week, as well as name recognition, both their own and those of
their classmates.
We have a library that is something the students really enjoy.
We have a computer in our library with many programs and games
geared towards nursery school aged children, and they have a great
time learning how to use them!
The curriculum we use is from Abeka.
These books have wonderfully illustrated, bright pages for the
students
to complete. Through using these books, we learn how to trace, use
scissors, begin to write our letters, etc.
We have many special days through the
year, and enjoy celebrating all the different holidays with parties!
We go on several field trips through the year as well, including
trips to an Alpaca Farm, Pumpkin Patch, dentists office, police/fire
station, grocery store, library, etc. These are fun for the students,
they really seem to enjoy getting out and learning about new places!
Nursery school is a great way to
introduce your child to a school type setting before they actually
begin Pre-K or Kindergarten. The structure, routine, socialization
and skills they acquire benefit them greatly, not to mention the
great time they have while learning!
