Maybe you've just moved to town and looking for a church, or maybe you've been in town your whole life and decided to try out this "church thing" for the first time. Whatever the reason, we're glad you're here.
If you've never attended Houlton Wesleyan before, here are some useful answers to help you on your first visit.
When is the Sunday Service?
There are two services each Sunday, one at 9am and the other at 10:30am. They are nearly identical, the only difference being that the choir sings a special in the 10:30 service. You can expect each service to last one hour. We recommended you arrive 5-10 minutes early so that you can find a seat before the service begins.
What should I expect at the Sunday Service?
The first 30 minutes include singing songs together, announcements of church activities, and a choir special in the 10:30 service. The second 30 minutes include a sermon from Pastor Wayne.
What should I wear?
There is no dress code. Some people wear suits and dresses, other people wear jeans or shorts. We're not concerned with what people wear -- if you're at church, that's what counts!
What is the music like?
We sing a combination of traditional hymns and more recent choruses. The instruments include piano, guitars, and drums.
What are the options for my kids?
Kids of all ages are welcome to sit in the service with their parents if they wish. Alternatively, the following are available during the respective service times:
- 9am -- Sunday School classes are available for all ages during the entire service. Please see the Sunday School page for more info.
- 10:30am -- Nursery is available during the entire service for children ages 4 and under. At 11am (during the sermon) Pastor Wayne will announce that the children are dismissed for Junior Church, for Pre-K to 6th grade.
Where should I park?
There is a large parking lot in front of the church building. Park in any open space. There aren't any reserved spots, even for the pastors!
does it cost money to attend?
No! An offering plate is passed around during each service to allow regular attenders to contribute financially. But people visiting Houlton Wesleyan should not put money into the offering -- this service is a gift from our church to you. Our hope is that you connect with God during the service, as well as meet others attending the church.
How do I get more information?
If you attend the Sunday Service, there is a welcome card on each seat that you can fill out to get more information. You can stop by the Welcome Desk or chat with any of the pastors to answer questions you might have.
